Description & How To Use

Meet the SnapBuddy Pro, the wireless selfie screen that lets you shoot with your phone's best camera and still see yourself. It attaches magnetically to the back of your phone, connects over screen mirroring with no cable at all, and gives you a live 2.01" preview with a capture button built right into the screen.

Completely Wireless
SnapBuddy Pro connects using AirPlay, Miracast, Cast or Smart View, so there is nothing running between the screen and your phone. Set the phone on a tripod, hold the screen in your hand, and frame the shot from wherever you are standing.

Film With Your Best Camera
Your rear camera has the bigger sensor, the better low light performance and the extra lenses. SnapBuddy Pro puts that live view in front of you so you get the good camera and a proper preview at the same time.

Built In Capture Button
Once the Bluetooth link is set up, you can start and stop your shot straight from the screen. No reaching for the phone, no separate remote to keep track of.

Up To 20m Of Range
Step back, move around the room, or set the phone at the far end of a space. The connection holds up to 20 metres.

760mAh Battery
Rechargeable over USB-C, with a power indicator on screen so you always know how much you have left.

Just 50g
Small and light enough to hold all day or leave attached to your phone.

How To Use

  1. Charge SnapBuddy Pro with the included USB-C cable before first use.
  2. Press and hold the power button to turn it on.
  3. Attach it magnetically to the back of your phone, or leave it off the phone and hold it separately. Both work.
  4. Connect your phone. On iPhone, open Control Centre, tap Screen Mirroring, select Snap buddy BT, and enter 1234 if you are prompted for a code. On Android, open Cast, Smart View or Wireless Display and select Snap buddy BT. If the name doesn't appear, long press the Display Ratio button for 3 seconds to switch channels, then look again.
  5. Open your camera app and switch to the rear camera. Your live view appears on the SnapBuddy screen.
  6. Press the middle button to rotate between portrait and landscape. SnapBuddy Pro also supports 1:1 and full screen display ratios.
  7. To use the capture button, pair SnapBuddy Pro in your phone's Bluetooth settings as well as screen mirroring. The two connections are separate.

Compatibility
SnapBuddy Pro works with any iPhone or Android phone that supports screen mirroring, which covers effectively every current handset.

  • iPhone: connects through Screen Mirroring in Control Centre.

  • Android: connects through Cast, Smart View or Wireless Display, depending on your brand.

Because the connection is wireless, there is no dependence on your phone's port or cable, so older iPhones with a Lightning port work exactly the same as the newest models.

If your phone is not MagSafe compatible, a magnetic ring or a MagSafe compatible case will hold SnapBuddy Pro securely. You can also use it completely detached from the phone.

FAQ's

What's the difference between the SnapBuddy Pro and the SnapBuddy Lite?

The SnapBuddy Pro is fully wireless using screen mirroring, has a built in 760mAh battery, an integrated capture button, up to 20m of range and weighs 50g.

The SnapBuddy Lite connects instantly with a USB-C cable, includes a separate Bluetooth remote, weighs 38g and never needs charging because it runs off your phone.

Pick the Pro if you want to move around freely and shoot with nothing between the screen and your phone. Pick the Lite if you want the lightest, simplest setup at a lower price.

How does SnapBuddy Pro connect to my phone?

On iPhone, open Control Centre, tap Screen Mirroring and select Snap buddy BT. Enter 1234 if prompted.

On Android, open Cast, Smart View or Wireless Display and select Snap buddy BT. If the name doesn't appear, long press the Display Ratio button for 3 seconds to switch channels.

Can I switch between portrait and landscape?

Yes. Press the middle button to rotate between portrait and landscape. SnapBuddy Pro also supports 1:1 and full screen display ratios.

Why would I use this instead of my front camera?

Your rear camera delivers significantly better image quality, with larger sensors, better low light performance and multiple lenses. SnapBuddy Pro lets you use all of those advantages while still seeing yourself in real time.

What if my phone doesn't have MagSafe?

Use a magnetic ring or a MagSafe compatible case. You can also use SnapBuddy Pro detached from your phone entirely, which is often the better way to shoot at a distance.

Do I need to download an app?

No. SnapBuddy Pro uses the screen mirroring feature already built into your phone.

Will there be a delay on the screen?

There is a small delay of a fraction of a second, which is normal for any wireless screen mirroring. It is not noticeable for framing yourself, though you may spot it if you wave your hand quickly in front of the camera.

Will the screen show up in my recording?

No. SnapBuddy Pro is a preview screen only. Nothing about it appears in the footage your phone records.

How do I charge it?

Connect the included USB-C cable to any 5V USB charger. The power indicator on screen shows the remaining battery level.

User Manual

You can find the SnapBuddy Pro user manual via the video above or on YouTube. Watch the step by step guide for easy setup and troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

"Snap buddy BT" doesn't appear in my screen mirroring list

  • Make sure SnapBuddy Pro is on and charged. A flat battery is the most common cause. Charge it for 15 minutes and try again.

  • Switch channels. Long press the Display Ratio button for 3 seconds. This moves SnapBuddy Pro to a different wireless channel and is the usual fix when the name never shows up, particularly on Android.

  • Turn Wi-Fi on. Screen mirroring uses your phone's Wi-Fi radio even though it doesn't use your home network. If Wi-Fi is switched off, the device will not be found.

  • Move closer. Start the connection within a couple of metres, then move further away once it is established.

  • Close other mirroring sessions. If your phone is already mirroring to a TV, Chromecast or car display, disconnect that first.

  • Restart both. Turn SnapBuddy Pro off and on, then toggle your phone's Wi-Fi off and on.

It asks for a code

Enter 1234.

It connects, then drops out after a few seconds or minutes

  • Check for Wi-Fi congestion. Apartment blocks, offices, cafes and venues with lots of networks are the hardest environments for any wireless mirroring device. Moving a few metres or into a different room often clears it.

  • Move away from other 2.4GHz gear. Microwaves, cordless phones, baby monitors and some Bluetooth speakers sit on the same frequencies.

  • Switch channels. Long press the Display Ratio button for 3 seconds to move to a clearer channel.

  • Turn off battery saver. Low Power Mode on iPhone and battery saver modes on Android can throttle the Wi-Fi radio and cut mirroring sessions short.

  • Check the battery level. The connection becomes unstable as the battery gets very low.

There is noticeable lag between my movement and the screen

A small delay is normal and unavoidable with wireless mirroring. If the lag is bad enough to be distracting, it is almost always local wireless interference. Try switching channels with a 3 second long press of the Display Ratio button, and move away from other Wi-Fi networks and 2.4GHz devices.

If you need a preview with no delay at all, the SnapBuddy Lite uses a wired connection instead.

The capture button doesn't do anything

  • Pair Bluetooth separately. Screen mirroring and the capture button are two different connections. Go into your phone's Bluetooth settings and pair SnapBuddy Pro there as well.

  • Open the camera app. The capture button behaves like a volume button, so it only works while your camera app is open and on screen.

  • Try your phone's built in camera app. Some third party camera apps ignore volume button triggers.

  • Re-pair. In Bluetooth settings, tap Forget This Device, then pair again.

The whole phone screen is showing, including my notifications

This is how screen mirroring works. SnapBuddy Pro shows whatever is on your phone's display, so open your camera app and that is what you will see. Turn on Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode before you shoot to stop notifications appearing in your preview.

The picture has black bars or looks stretched

Your phone's screen is a different shape to the SnapBuddy display. Press the Display Ratio button to switch between 1:1 and full screen until the framing suits your shot.

The battery drains faster than I expect

Wireless mirroring is power hungry on both devices, so expect a shorter runtime than a standby figure would suggest. Turn SnapBuddy Pro off between takes rather than leaving it connected, and keep it topped up if you are filming for an extended session. It can be used while it is charging.

The range is shorter than 20m

20m is the figure in open space with clear line of sight. Walls, floors, furniture, glass and even your own body between the phone and the screen all reduce it. Solid brick and concrete cut it the most.
